In 1979, the Charlie Daniels Band had a crossover hit with "The Devil Went Down To Georgia", a song about a disappointed Devil who is way behind on stealing souls, and he comes upon a young man named Johnny who is playing a fiddle. Out of desperation, the Devil, who claims to also be a fiddle player, wagers a fiddle of gold against Johnny's soul to see who is the better fiddler. Johnny proves that he's "the best that's ever been". The Charlie Daniels Band went on tour to thrill audiences with the bluegrass classic.
